Serene Karplus, Nederland.  The frenzy of summer is in full swing as we race around to visit all our short-lived wildflower friends and catch the narrow window of mountain hiking before the aspens turn in just two months. The wild schedule in the towns just below us is equally crazy, with live music and outdoor festivals every weekend and weekday evening.

We know we can’t do it all. But we try to soak in everything we can. Our mountain seniors are super busy this month enjoying the treats of summer. Please contact us at 303-258-0799 to join us for any of the following events:

Senior Living Tour: Pack your questions and explore the unique senior living options in Boulder County. Nine retirement communities open their doors and provide information, tours, and refreshments on Saturday, July 11, 10:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. Info and registration at 970-888-1871 or BoulderCountySeniorLivngTour.eventbrite.com

Dave Felkley Memorial Hike:  Meet at Nederland Community Center parking lot to carpool to Brainard for a walk to/around Long Lake on Friday, July 17, 9:00 a.m.

Much Ado About Nothing:  The fun romance and razor-sharp wit of Beatrice and Benedick in this Shakespeare play is an outdoor highlight of this year’s Colorado Shakespeare Festival outdoors on the CU campus. We will attend on Sunday, July 19, 6:30 p.m. Carpools depart Nederland Community Center at 5:30 p.m. Senior tickets are $37, but the first ten mountain senior reservations through NAS paid by Friday, July 10, will cost only $25, thanks to our Boulder County Create Our Future funds. Hearing devices are available near the box office.

Pancake Breakfast:  NAS welcomes local school alumni of all ages to catch up with current local residents at our annual Nederland Coming Home Days (formerly named Old Timers’ Days) Pancake Breakfast.  We serve 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, at the Nederland Community Center. For only $7 Adults, $5 Seniors, and $4 Kids 12 and under, hundreds of folks enjoy eggs, sausage, coffee, juice, and all-you-can-eat fluffy buttermilk pancakes. New to the menu this year we add bananas, yogurt, and granola, so we have something for everyone. Please call us at 303-258-0799 if you would like to help us serve.  Please invite everyone you know to attend!

John Fielder & Colorado Music Festival:  In commemoration of Rocky Mountain National Park’s centennial anniversary, the Colorado Music Festival joins creative forces with photographer John Fielder. Experience Fielder’s iconic nature photography as images from his Rocky Mountain National Park and other Colorado collections are projected on screen above the CMF orchestra at Chautauqua in Boulder.

The photos are choreographed with two symphonic works linked to nature: Sibelius’ 5th Symphony and Beethoven’s 6th Symphony, the Pastoral.

Enjoy the concert on Thursday, July 30, at 7:30 p.m. and consider arriving at 6:30 p.m. for a brief talk on the Auditorium Terrace by John Fielder. Carpools depart Nederland Community Center at 5:30 p.m. (or 6:30 p.m. if concert only). The least expensive padded seats are $19, but the first ten mountain senior reservations through NAS paid by Wednesday, July 15, will cost only $12, thanks to our Boulder County Create Our Future funds.

Side By Side By Sondheim:  Allenspark presents the musical revue Side By Side By Sondheim indoors at the newly remodeled The Old Gallery the last weekend of July and first weekend of August. We hear this year’s voices are more magnificent than ever.

Nederland Area Seniors will attend the matinee on Sunday, August 2, at 2:30 p.m. On this date, we have an opportunity to include a reception with the singers/actors with appetizers and wine at 1:30 p.m. for an extra $5.

Let us know your preference when you register. Carpools depart Nederland Community Center at 12:30 p.m. (or 1:30 p.m. if no reception). Senior tickets are $15 (+$5 if attending reception), but mountain senior reservations through NAS paid by Wednesday, July 22, will cost only $10 (+$5 if reception), thanks to our Boulder County Create Our Future funds.
