ELDORA MOUNTAIN RESORT – On March 6 through March 8, Subaru’s WinterFest made its latest stop on their music and mountain lifestyle tour celebrating wintertime adventure. Fifteen inches of new snow at Eldora on Friday ushered in the event.
S’mores, snacks, and hot beverages were provided at no charge. The latest gear was featured from Thule, Luno, Wilderdog, and Mammut. Nordica, Never Summer, and 100% offered free demos. $4,500 in Subaru swag and other giveaways was awarded each day.
Cousin Curtiss took the main stage with his “rootstomp” music on Friday. He describes his sound as “blues at bluegrass speeds.”
Saturday brought the SUSTO String Band all the way from Charleston, South Carolina. Their lively Americana, alt-country, indie rock kept the crowd well entertained through the early afternoon.
Between sets people lined up to listen to a factory-installed Harman Kardon sound system from the interior of a Subaru Crosstrek. A gift was given to every participant for the privilege. A Subaru Solterra was outfitted with a bike rack and a tent pitched on its roof, which attracted curious kids who climbed up the ladder and into the tent for a closer look.
Dynamic folk quartet Last Revel closed out a full day to satisfied attendees with what has been quaintly tagged as “front porch Americana."
Youngish, twenty-something dancers were driven into a near frenzy on Sunday by guitarist Marvel Years' performance from inside the Woodward BoomBox next to the West Wing deck.
WinterFest continues its goodwill tour at Snowbird Ski Resort, Utah, on March 20-22, followed by Mt. Bachelor, Oregon, on March 27-29 before concluding this year’s two-month-long celebration.
