NEDERLAND - Founded in 2018 by Maxfield Rashbaum & Brianna Rashbaum, Spinning Silica is a combined public studio for borosilicate torch-work and mid-fired stonewares. They bring the visitor a beautiful mix of glass and ceramics for your everyday lives.
The Rashbaums’ studio exhibits works in glass, ceramics, apothecary, woodworking, jewelry, wire wrapping, photography, and textile art.
They also offer a number of workshops to encourage the next generation of Nederland artists: pottery classes for kids, teens, and adults; a Borosilicate Glass Blowing class that may well lead to their class in making smokeware.
They have an Agate Wind Chime Workshop where students design and create their own personal windchimes. They also offer an open studio on Sundays, where budding artists can make use of the studio’s facilities to make their own art.
There was even a Summer Clay Camp for kids.
The reason: As Brianna Rashbaum puts it, “we aim to bring beauty into your everyday lives.” She adds that “Learning to center myself while centering my clay was a huge part of why I wanted to share the peace of creating with ceramics.”
Spinning Silica is located at 20 Lakeview Drive #208 in Nederland. You can see their work and their educational offerings at https://www.spinningsilica.com/, and you can reach them by phone at 720-240-8484 or email at spinningsilica@gmail.com.
