BLACK HAWK — At LitWood & Artisan Friends, owner and artist Jason Flesher sells his fractal-burned art, but also has “the privilege of selling art from 30 different types of artisans!” exclaims Flesher.
The store is always evolving, including the new painters currently on display. One room is dedicated to the stitched arts, where visitors will find lots to shop for, from t-shirts and dresses to rompers and crocheted items.
On the main level, kitchenware and one-of-a-kind jewelry decorate the shelves alongside pottery and small souvenirs. But the excitement doesn’t end there. Acrylic and alcohol paintings are among the art available, and spooky gear is sold year-round.
When asked what else Flesher wants the public to know, he shares a few rules about the store’s game. “Pull your phones out at the door. There is a white circle or chip taped to the wall at the entrance. If you tap it with your phone, it will give you a letter and a clue.”
The trick is to remember that letter. You do not need the camera open; just unlock your phone. When you figure out where the first clue is, tap it with your phone, and it will ask for a password. Enter the letter you remembered to open clue number two. The goal is to put all the letters together to reveal a prize participants can choose from at the front table.
Where does Flesher receive inspiration for these ideas and his art? Flesher says, “When it all comes down to it, it is my kids who inspire me.”
Additionally, there are 15 quick facts about Black Hawk at the store for guests that don't want to play the monthly scavenger hunt. Dad Jokes and, on occasion, hidden coupons are part of the experience at Litwood & Artisan Friends.
