On August 16 and 17, Nederland Schools welcomed students back to school for the 2023-24 school year. There was an energy of excitement and some nerves at Nederland Elementary School (NES) as students gathered around their teachers before walking into the school. Ann Sherman, the Social Emotional Learning Coordinator, painted a welcome sign so students and parents who brought their children to school felt extra cared for and that they belonged at NES.
Nederland Middle-Senior High School (NMSHS) welcomed the incoming sixth graders on August 16. The eighth grade 360 Leaders led by teacher Lori Kinczel welcomed the sixth graders with an orientation day. Some of their activities included, playing games, getting to know the layout of the building, and learning how to use their lockers. It is a nice way to start at a middle-high school before the seventh through twelfth graders came the next day.
We hope all the Nederland Panthers, students, staff, and parents have a splendid school year. As a community, remember students are walking to bus stops and walking home. Please, be aware of them. Follow the rules of the road with school buses.
Support the students in their activities. Fall sports have started at NMSHS. Come watch these student athletes. Theater, music and art activities are right around the corner. It is enjoyable to watch the youth in our community and see the talents they have. When the schools and the community are more closely connected both will thrive even more.
From the youngest Panthers to the senior class have a year full of learning, respect for each other, and have fun!
