Dear Editor,
So here we go again, 19 babies killed in their classroom. They were no doubt looking forward to summer vacation, playing with their friends, or a special vacation with their family. We cry again.
The elected officials at the top don’t seem to want to do anything to support better laws to help combat the extreme easing of gun regulations. Statistics show that the majority of the population wants common sense rules and regulations. When do we wake up? When do we realize all the tears, prayers and slogans say we need a change? The latest town that is being affected will be strong. Will we overcome?
That doesn’t seem to be working. How many more lives will be ended before their time; not because of some awful sickness but because they were murdered? Yes, mental health has a lot to do with this epidemic of violence, but easy access to weapons of mass distraction make it possible.
There is a saying, “think globally, act locally”. Maybe it is time to take a closer look at Gilpin County’s elected officials and those running for office. What are their views on such important issues? Have they voted against a fire ban because it is an assault on the second amendment? Have they flown a white supremacy flag in front of their house? Maybe it is time to start at the bottom and work our way up.
The mother bear in me has been awoken, and I will fight with all my might. Not with a gun, but with my voice and every fiber in my body. If one of us is hurting, we are all hurting.
