Steve passed at the age of 74 while in hospice at the Golden Lodge Assisted Living and Memory Care, in Golden, Colorado, on September 10, 2025, following complications with Parkinson disease and dementia.
Steve was born to Henry and Margaret Dolson in Dubuque, Iowa, on May 11, 1951. He attended Catholic schools, graduating from Dubuque Wahlert High School in 1969. He served in the Air Force during the Viet Nam era from September of 1969 through an honorable discharge in June of 1973 with an E4 Sgt rank. While in the service he made many lifelong friends, especially those with whom he served while stationed in Brindisi, Italy.
After his service career he attended the University of Iowa graduating with a degree in geology. Steve subsequently fell in love with the Rocky Mountains and moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he founded and ran Indian Peaks Springwater distributing alpine spring water from the Continental Divide throughout the Boulder and north Denver area.
Steve loved to hike and travel in the Rockies with his friends and family and his faithful dogs.
On his retirement in 2015, he sold his business and moved further into the mountains, to Nederland, Colorado, which he loved and resided in until having to move into the nursing home in July of 2023.
Survivors include Carolyn (Dick) Noesen, Jeanne Keck, and Tim (Carol) Dolson of Dubuque, Iowa, Cathy (Roger) Puls, of Sandy, Oregon, Janice (Monty) Casebolt, of Livingston, Montana, Peter (Bonnie) Dolson, of Ft. Pierce, Florida, Randy (Peggy) Dolson, of North Liberty, Iowa, and Gunnison, Colorado, and 37 nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Margaret Dolson, his older brother, Dennis, and his nephew, Thomas Keck.
