Ron Mitchell, who owns businesses in town, said his businesses on First Street are not operating and he has no guests in the Hop Inn. “This is pretty bad. It couldn’t be worse,” he said. Mitchell is working on converting the old Pioneer Inn into a restaurant called the Covered Wagon. He doesn’t have a date when it will open. “We’re on an everyday basis. Everyone is suffering,” Mitchell said.
Claudia Schauffler, who owns The Shop in the Caribou Shopping Center, said the business has closed. “I honestly don’t know what the future holds. I am okay for now, but I don’t know for how long.”

Dan Harrower has two businesses in the Shopping Center, he said he has closed the restaurant and is working hard to keep the laundry safe and open. Shopping Center owner Stephen Tebo is working with the businesses individually to negotiate terms while so many are closed.
Also, the Town of Nederland and the Nederland Downtown Development Authority are working on a plan to help businesses in the DDA district, but nothing has been finalized yet.

Thompson has been working alone in the store to protect his employees. He asks that everyone who enters the store wear a mask and that they have something in mind when they come in, and are not just browsing. One sweet lady came in and bought $150 worth of stuff, and when he offered her a senior discount, she turned it and down and said she knew he needed the money.
