Jamie Lammers, native to the Nederland community, has been writing for the paper for the last two years. Nederland is very near and dear to his heart. “I’ve lived in Colorado my whole life,” said Lammers. “I’ve loved living in Colorado.”

As a sophomore at CU Boulder, majoring in general humanities with a minor in music, he is discovering the world of arts and society, delving into his interests in the liberal arts. As well as having a passion for history, Lammers is finding his way to the path he desires after his college career. “I’m currently exploring a career in journalism to see if it’s something that potentially keeps my interest in the future.”

Lammers, also having a passion for music, dreams he may possibly one day sing or act for a career; he has been working since junior high, directing high school productions, and now auditioning for roles in the college community. He was in choir in middle school and loved to sing in his free time, often accompanying himself on guitar.

“I’ve been trying, here and elsewhere, just various different things, just seeing what sticks and just taking whatever opportunities I can to try and further whatever I can with singing and acting as a whole,” said Lammers.

Music production is also another one of Lammers’ interests, creating and editing his music, as well as the podcasts we listen to on The Mountain-Ear website.

Through his writing, he wants to make an impact, as much as he can, on the audience he is writing for. He wants to connect with his audience with trust and honesty. “I love writing about local stories and whatever random interests I can, including history, animals, film, and music. “

“And so, I think for me, the creativity just kind of comes from finding my journalistic style and also trying to figure out how to remain true to what people say when I interview them as well,” said Lammers.

He has three cats at home with his parents and a 10-year-old pleco fish that had grown too big to keep with other fish in the tank, He said that his family used to have black mollies and betta fish as well, although the pleco just kept “just kept on growing and kept on growing.”

As Lammers continues to write as part of the staff and podcasts of The Mountain-Ear, he’s interested in the events that local people want to celebrate, the issues that keep the people in the community fighting for their individual peace and well being, and the things that overall bring people joy in the community.
