St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Central City celebrated the “Blessing of the Animals” service on Sunday, October 2 from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Gilpin County Community Center Barn arena. Over a dozen animals gathered with their owners and were blessed by Reverend Lada Hardwicke.
Francis of Assisi (1181-1226), believed that all creatures were brothers and sisters and that nature itself was the mirror of God. St. Francis was canonized by Pope Gregory IX in 1228.
St. Francis became the founder of the Franciscan Order. St. Francis was a great lover of God’s creatures and Francis’ Feast Day is celebrated on October 4.
The animal owners gathered and enjoyed fellowship with chili and brownies. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will again be celebrating this lovely service on an annual basis.
