Barbara Lawlor, Gilpin County. There will be a flurry of activity on the Gilpin County Adult Coed Softball League fields in the upcoming week as teams try to make up the plethora of rained-out games that occurred in the past month. The Tonya Putnam Memorial Tournament has been scheduled for August 1 and August 2.

In the past week, through Thursday, July 16, The Champs regained their top seed position as the Acers lost their second game of the season and The Champs held on to their 11-1 record.

On Tuesday, July 14, The Champs overcame the Blue Sox 10-4; and then in their double-header, The Champs stuffed the Acers 14-5, moving to the top after the Acers had climbed to a tie-for-first-place position. But the Acers continue to be contenders.

On Wednesday, July 15, the Acers beat the Misfits, 12-0; and the Players beat the Blue Sox 18-5.

On Thursday, July 16, the Acers beat the Mean Machine by a narrow margin, 13-12; and Whistlers beat the Misfits, 21-9.

Standings as of Thursday, July 16:

1. The Champs, 11-1

2. Acers, 10-2

3. Mean Machine, 8-4

4. Players, 7-5

5. Blue Sox, 3-10

6. Whistler’s Café, 2-9

7. Misfits, 2-11

Next week, there will be three scheduled games played before the Putnam Tournament begins on August 1. Other makeup games will be plugged in on the open dates.

On Tuesday, July 28, the Champs will play the Players and the Champs will play Whistlers.

On  Wednesday, July 29, the Mean Machine will play the Misfits.

If The Champs lose one and the Acers win one, they will be back to a tie for first place. Anything can happen in the next week.
