I come across a lot of businesses while exploring Colorado but I’m not always inspired to write about them. Something has to stand out before I consider spending time running my fingers across the keyboard.
Needless to mention, the case was different when I walked into the Exit 240 Ski and Ride shop in Idaho Springs. At first glance, I thought it looked too small for all the things they offered.
I was quickly corrected when I entered the store and saw everything they had. I don’t mind being wrong. Especially, for the right reasons. In this case, the owners of the shop, Bart and Sally Gothman, proved me to be more than incorrect.
After being impressed with what they had to offer, the investigative journalist in me began to ask questions. I discovered that they have been in business for 18 years. It was Mr. Gothman’s passion for skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and snowshoeing that inspired his dream of owning a ski shop. With the support of his wife and their five kids, they are living that dream.
Whether you’re a novice or an expert, you can find what you need at Exit 240 Ski and Ride. The Gothmans are more than happy to fit you into the perfect gear without selling you unnecessary items. It’s all personalized. They don’t just send you on your way either. They will talk to you about caring for your equipment between visits and answer all of your questions.
From skis, snowboards, gloves, to hats and socks. You name it! Rentals and the option to purchase used gear are also available. Whether you’re an expert or a novice, make this your ski and ride shop.
It gets better. Not only are they conveniently located right off exit #240 on I-70 across the Sunoco, if your equipment needs a tune-up you can also bring it to their fullservice tuning shop. Plan a little and remember that winter sports can make you work up an appetite. Before you head out, don’t forget to grab a breakfast burrito, muffin, or protein bar for later.
I’m not done yet. If you thought the location was convenient, check this one out. Should you be unable to get to the shop during their normal business hours, you can call them to schedule an after-hours appointment. If they can make that happen for you, they will.
When you go to Exit 240 Ski and Ride, it’s like going to have a chat with a friend who will never steer you wrong, and who happens to know a lot about winter sports and gear.
