Singers, dancers, actors, musicians honored at Ned Oscars

Barbara Lawlor, Nederland. Long after the Golden Globes, the Academy Awards, the County Music Awards and the Grammy Awards, the Nederland Middle Senior High School Music and Theater Department celebrates its talented students in its own award ceremony.

The Ned choirs, bands, orchestras, thespians and technical crews devoted time and energy to present concerts, plays and the spring musical for their families and the community. At the end of each year, their hours are translated into points which are represented by pins and letters.

 

At the Nederland Music and Theater Award Ceremony on Friday night, the students proudly accepted their awards.

 

Festival Choir letters went to Sydney Mayhew, Mattea Beachy, Ely Nitsch and Alexandra Berumen-Gonzalez.

 

Loquation letters went to Aspen Abel and Meagan Figgins.

 

Pins went to Ellie Brewer, Marguerite Bradley, Hadley Zotti, Jamie Lammers, Sasha Godsil and William Culver.

 

An orchestra pin went to senior Karen Sorokach.

 

Orchestra and band directors Christine Mallery and Liz Evans presented awards to each grade’s outstanding participants.

 

Sixth Grade Band: Most Dedicated: Taylor Johnson; Hardest Worker: Leah Beaudin; Most Inspirational: Landon Rich.

 

Middle Level Band: Most Dedicated: Rowan Harper; Hardest Worker: Hayden Camp and Natalie Sclove.

Most Improved: Maddie Brewer and Aric Olson; Most Inspirational: Zachary Weiner and Ben Nichols.

 

Sixth Grade Orchestra: Most Dedicated: Teaghan Hartman; Hardest Worker: Solomon Moritz; Most Inspirational: Glenn Dress; Most Improved: Aeden Koziel and Clara Miller.

 

Seventh & Eighth Grade Orchestra: Most Dedicated Natalie Taylor; Hardest Worker: Mackenzie Weber; Most Inspirational: Ande Hammers; Most Improved: Juli Stephenson.

 

High School Orchestra: Most Dedicated: Karen Sorokach; Hardest Worker: Clementine Miller; Most Inspirational: Allison Hardt-Zeman; Most Improved: Michael Crapsey.

 

Karen Sorokach also won the National Orchestra Award which puts her name on a plaque with former years’ winners.

Sixth-Eighth Grade Choir: Most Dedicated: Lauren Dirr; Hardest Worker: Opal Kinnikin; Most Inspirational: Blue Garcia; Most Improved Mary Jeanne Jarril.

 

Seventh and Eighth Grade Choir: Most Dedicated: Lucy Schalz; Hardest Worker: Ella Mueller and Tabby Lamb; Most Improved: Willow and Kaia Cole; Most Inspirational: Annabel Ivey and Sereph Kelly.

 

Festival Choir: Most Dedicated: Liesl Nunemacher; Hardest Worker: Alexandra Berumen-Gonzalez; Most Improved: Mattea Beachy and Ely Nitsch; Most Inspirational: Caedon Hartman and Sydney Mayhew.

 

High School Band: Most Dedicated: Austin Giggey; Hardest Worker: Alex Voymas; Most Improved: Quinn Boutot; Most Inspirational: Maddie Prince.

 

The Loquations: Most Dedicated: Hadley Zotti and Ellie Brewer; Hardest Worker: Jamie Lammers and Meagan Figgins; Most Improved: Aspen Abel and Marguerite Bradley; Most Inspirational: Sasha Godsil and William Culver.

 

Theater directors Liz Evans, Josh Lake, Susan Blurton and Ki Goodman presented the fall play and spring musical awards.

 

At the State Conference, Hattie Bakke and Mazie Pancoast earned Excellent Ratings and Hayley Turner and Sasha Godsil earned Superior Ratings. Student directors Mazie Pancoast, Hayley Turner, Hattie Bakke, Jamie Lammers, Xoli Hatwan and Sasha Godsil were honored for their hard work in the fall plays.

 

 

The Best Supporting Actor Award went to Aiden Castleberry; The Best Supporting Actress Award went to Marguerite Bradley; the Best Actor Award went to William Culver and the Best Actress Award went to Meagan Figgins.

 

The Spring Musical Once Upon a Mattress Awards were presented by the directors: Josh Lake handed out the Tech Awards: Rookie of the Year went to Elise Harless; The Technician of the Year went to Xoli Hatwan and Zach Weiner.

 

The Costume Award went to Ely Nitsch and Violet Rainwater; Dance Awards went to Townes Bakke; Ready, Willing and Able Oscar went to Hattie Bakke; Teachable and Adapting Oscar went to Hayley Turner; Oh! What a Character Oscar went to Sasha Godsil and the Best Ensemble Award went to Hattie Bakke, Hayley Turner and Ellie Brewer.

 

The Best Supporting Actor in a Male Role was presented to Jamie Lammers; the Best Supporting Actress went to Mazie Pancoast.

 

The Best Actor in a Male Role went to Ellie Brewer and the Best Actress Award went to Sydney Mayhew.
