I’m not one for fast food, but when someone suggested I try Shake Shack in Boulder, I figured I had nothing to lose. I don’t consider myself vegan, as I almost eat a little bit of everything, but I do have a very high plant-based diet.

I prefer to cook my meals at home, so I’m always hesitant about the food I eat when I’m out. Yes, I’m somewhat of a picky eater - mainly for health reasons. While in Boulder for a meeting, I took a slight detour.

The place is small, but the line was long. Walking inside, I looked at the menu and figured I’d try the vegan burger. I had to place my order on a computer, which can be confusing if you’re not tech-savvy. Luckily, it isn’t too difficult to navigate.

I punched in my order and paid. I grabbed my number and placed it on a table. I waited in line for the restroom to wash my hands. The restaurant had just opened so they weren’t too busy. I think I waited about 10 minutes.

My vegan meal, complete with french fries and a milkshake arrived as my stomach reminded me of how hungry I was. I asked a group of people nearby if I could take a photo of their burgers.

I do this a lot when I’m discovering Colorado. People must think I’m strange, and they’re right. Sometimes, I explain why I prefer to take a photo of their meal instead of mine. Other times, I simply let them wonder.

Considering I’ve had plenty of vegan food that made me want to run to a ranch, slaughter a cow, and eat it raw, I wasn’t expecting much. To my surprise, it was rather delicious. I seldom enjoy french fries and milkshakes, so I decided to enjoy it to the fullest.

After a few bites of my plant burger, I dunked a few french fries into my chocolate milkshake. I haven’t done that in years! It was so yummy that I left nothing on my plate. Not even a crumb, and I was proud of that.

Of course, upon returning home, I got on my spin bike for 60 minutes to help diminish the guilt I felt for eating such a large meal. Nonetheless, I was impressed with the quality of my vegan meal.

You can find chicken, hot dogs, frozen custard, and adult beverages at Shake Shack. You can also order online before heading to Boulder. Just don’t forget to pick up your meal once you get to town.
