Dear Editor,
Words are powerful imagery. Penziner, in being asked to define sustainable growth, answered: “provide opportunities for affordable workforce housing, and for families and businesses to grow.”
As a long-time (40 years) resident and elder, I support her response. However, once again, as I’ve done numerous times, I’m pointing out that Seniors have been overlooked, unacknowledged, and/or lumped together within our affordable housing crisis.
Many of us continue to be part of the workforce out of necessity. Most noticeably to afford housing.
Our desire-want is no longer to grow within our chosen “forever” home. Throughout all the transitions and being in our last season of having lived on the mountain peak most of our lives, many of us have the want-need to age in place where we’ve lived the majority of our lives.
So, again I ask you, when speaking about affordable housing in our community, to remember our workforce, our families, AND OUR ELDERS!
