There are many legends of Santa Claus, many followers of different religions worldwide celebrate the figure as part of their holidays or beliefs. According to one legend, Santa Claus can be traced back almost 2000 years to a monk named Nicholas.

Born sometime around A.D. 280 near Myra in modern-day Turkey, St. Nicholas’ piety and kindness were among the many traits people admired. Some say he gave away all his wealth and traveled to the countryside to help poor people.

One story claims St. Nicholas saved three sisters from being sold into slavery or prostitution. He gave them a dowry so they could be married and kept safe. St. Nicholas’ popularity spread, and he became the inspirational character of many legends and stories.

He was also known as the protector of children and sailors. St. Nicholas passed away on December 6, a day celebrated with a feast in his honor. Between the 14th and 17th centuries, the Renaissance, St. Nicholas was the most popular saint in Europe.

Today, one can travel just about anywhere and recognize his image. The Horseshoe Casino in Black Hawk is no exception. On Sunday, December 17, 2023, employees, guests, and children spent the afternoon with Santa, sharing the holiday spirit.

It was the second annual Meet and Greet Santa at the Horseshoe Casino and one of many events guests can enjoy throughout the year as casino members and employees. Join the fun and become a Caesars legend yourself!
