Sandy Lewarton

Sandy Miller Lewarton of Rollinsville and Summit County passed away June 3, 2014, after living a jam-packed life of friends, family and love. Sandy was born February 11, 1957 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Parents John and Bev Miller inspired Sandy and her brother Scott with a childhood full of ski trips and bicycle tours.

Sandy's love of travel and adventure continued when she made Colorado her home. She attended CU, worked at Golden Gate State Park, and led horseback rides for rock stars at Caribou Ranch. Sandy made lifelong friends at Eldora, where she became a ski patroller and founding member of Club Ned. She was a raft and mountain bike guide with Sheri Griffith Expeditions and Nichols Exhibitions.

She and her former husband, Larry, were river rangers on the Owhyee River, in eastern Oregon the summers before and after their daughter Robin was born in 1986. Sandy became a weekend ski patroller at Copper Mountain, and the family moved to Breckenridge to open Nature's Own in 1989. There, she made another circle of close friends, Chicks on Sticks, a weekly women's ski and hiking group . In addition to Nature's Own in Breckenridge and Nederland, Sandy worked at City Liquors in Breckenridge.

For the past three winters, she volunteered for Ignite, the Eldora adaptive ski program, and taught people with disabilities to ski.

Sandy is survived by her partner, Pete Dunigan of Rollinsville; daughter Robin; son Patrick; her father, John Miller; and Barb Keller, brother Scott Miller, niece Katie, nephew Drew and many friends from all over the world.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy's name can be made to Shaw Cancer Center in Vail, or Ignite, Eldora Mountain Resort. A memorial celebration for Sandy will be held at River Bend in Lyons on August 3.
