Roy moved to Nederland in 1978. He was an environmentalist and passionate about rocks. His happy place was deep in the Grand Canyon boating through the layers of time. He was an activist with a fierce love of nature and a willingness to protest to protect our planet.
He founded the original Nature's Own science and nature store in Nederland in 1986. Later he expanded Nature's Own to Ft. Collins, Breckenridge and downtown Boulder.
Roy’s goal for the stores themselves was that they help people understand earth science, geologic time, and extinction—directly, through the minerals and fossils featured. His goal for the stores’ profits was to fund environmental activists’ work around the world, especially through small localized initiatives—“Why we do what we do,” as Roy put it. The staff at Natures Own is strong. We will continue his work.
