Dear Editor,
Roy and Barbara Stewart: It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of our trail together. You have been a friend, an ally, supporter of mine since you and Barb became the owners of the Last Shot.
Like the Gilpin community in 1922, who welcomed the Black community of Lincoln Hills, you did the same for me, the James Beckwourth Mountain Club Members and my Constitutional Law buddies over the last several decades. Race and color meant no difference to you, Barb and your staff at the Last Shot.
I can still hear your booming voice welcoming me when I would walk in the door. I loved your red chili.
Restaurant life is tough. We saw your mother-in-law die, you saw my Mom die in August 2024. We suffered those losses together.
Please enjoy your future life together and get back to painting. One of your paintings of a heavyweight boxing match is prominently displayed in my basement sports room.
Until we see each other again, happy trails to you and Barbara.
