Dear Editor,
I am writing in response to the article "Eldora Venture Requires Emergency Funding"(4/23/26).
If I recall correctly, the idea of the purchase of the ski area by the town was sold to our community as not involving any funding from the town but rather it would all be handled within Mountain Recreation Enterprise Fund, using resources to be raised by the sale of Bonds.
Yet now the town, through Resolutions 2026-12 and 2026-13, has committed to spending unbudgeted, and substantial, town funds on the ski area. The former is to hire, for $90,000-110,000, a consulting firm to create (re-create, actually) processes and procedures that the ski area already has in place. The latter is an open-ended ask for "emergency expenditures" to "support initial operations". Failure to foresee this gap in funding throughout the process strikes me as gross negligence.
Moreover, while I completely understand the need for a "quiet period" in a transaction of this nature, the way the town has handled communications throughout the process strikes me as deceptive at best.
And so it begins...
