Elektra Greer, Nederland. As our squirrel friends revel in the bounty of pumpkin-littered porches, and a season of feasting before slumber is upon us, don’t forget the cornucopia of delights at Nederland Community Library!

There’s nothing like a chill in the air to make our reading room extra cozy. When was the last time you indulged in an hour of magazine browsing?
We are now open Sundays, 1-5 p.m. to keep cabin fever at bay. On that day, enjoy a free cocoa and tea bar, play one of the many board games we have available, or bring a crafting project and spread out your creativity on one of our meeting room tables. Who doesn’t love to scrapbook during the holidays?
We also have some wonderful programs coming up this month, including an all-day Open House on Thursday, November 8! Stop by and enjoy some homemade pumpkin-inspired treats and see what’s new at your library. If you’re a science lover, we’re taking votes on which books to include for our Popular Science book clubs and we always like to hear what kinds of materials you’d like us to order. You’ve asked for more eBooks offerings and audio downloadables so we put that in the budget for next year. We also heard requests for more booklists and recommendations, so check those out…our library team has been having fun putting those together. (Ever asked a librarian for a book recommendation? Be sure you have an hour to spare!)
One of our upcoming all ages events that we’re most excited about is our celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. If you’re wondering if this is just for kids (i.e. please tell me I can come and don’t need to bring a child with me), the answer is: the wand chooses the wizard! See you Saturday, November 10, 2018! Please register online at nedlib.org. No one wants to run out of butterbeer.
Speaking of butterbeer and pumpkin treats, we have some great new cookbooks to check out this season: All About Cake by Christina Tosi (title says it all!); Bakeland: Nordic Treats Inspired by Nature by Marit Hovland (gorgeous visuals) and All-time Favourite Sheet Cakes and Slab Pies by Bruce Weinstein (just about my speed!). And since it’s impossible to mention cookbooks without a nod to crafting, we have some other great books to check out: Weaving Within Reach by Anne Weil, The Mitten Handbook by Mary Scott Huff and Little Felted Dogs by Saori Yamazaki (I dare you to resist the cover!).
So, stop by and see what’s cookin’ and stitchin’ this month at your library!
Elektra Greer is the Director of the Nederland Community Library.
