Dear Editor,
I have had the opportunity to speak with three of the candidates for the RE-1 School Board in the last few weeks. I endorse all of them as excellent choices for the Board.
Two candidates are running for one 2-year term, filling out the term of a board member who resigned. They are Gary Duncan and Jill Petersen. Both are highly qualified, intelligent, and committed to doing their best for the Gilpin County School. In addition, Jill has a vested interest in the school because she has two children there. Only one can be chosen but you can’t make a mistake here.
The other candidate I have spoken to, Victoria Edwards, is running for one of the two open 4-year terms on the Board. She is also eminently qualified, has a child in the school, and is fiercely committed to doing her best for the Gilpin School.
All three of these candidates are profiled in the September 24, 2025, Mountain-Ear if you want more information.
Thank you,
Eric Douglas
Former Chair, Gilpin Democrats
Current 2nd Vice Chair, Gilpin Democrats
