Public Works requests letters of support

Chris Pelletier, Nederland Public Works. Public Works is seeking support for a grant application to fund improvements on 1st Street. The grant is called Revitalizing Main Streets.

This is a State grant with a maximum award of $2 million to fund improvements that focus on pedestrian safety, ADA accessibility, economic vitality, and improve connectivity for businesses and visitors of 1st Street.

Public Works has received support from the Board of Trustees to submit an application and Nederland’s Downtown Development Authority has agreed to provide matching funds to support these much-needed improvements to 1st Street.

Public Works is proposing to make improvements to existing sidewalks, bury power lines, designate loading zones, and provide ADA accessibility with an end goal of better pedestrian and vehicle separation and visitor safety. In addition to these structural enhancements, the grant will also fund art installations and pedestrian level lighting.

For a more successful application, Public Works needs letters of support. If residents and businesses think 1st Street is in need of improvement and support making the area more attractive and safer for visitors then please write a letter of support for this effort. Letters can be emailed to Chrisp@nederlandco.org.

Thank you for supporting Public Works efforts to acquire funding to improve Nederland’s downtown.
