Preschoolers in the Preschool Enrichment class at Nederland Elementary with teacher Ms. Liz Cooley have been learning about the Olympics and the Paralympics. They focused on how the world gathers and competes in sports.
The students were exposed to synchronized swimming, weightlifting, skateboarding, javelin, high jump, surfing and a variety of other sports and paralympic sports.
Ms. Liz said, “Special emphasis was put on sportsmanlike behavior and the two high jumpers who shared a gold medal.” They talked about the five continents represented by the five Olympic rings. Also how the athletes all travel to a city to compete together.
The preschoolers had their own preschool olympics. They played soccer with a giant soccer ball. That was tons of fun! They played balloon volleyball. Some preschoolers competed together balancing an egg on a spoon. That was quite a challenge. Some decided to be in the tricycle competition. The bubble blowing contest was probably the most popular event.
It was all in good fun and the preschoolers learned a little about how the world peacefully comes together to compete in the Olympic Games.
