the fall leaf trees
just at dusk
their gold almost glowing
like they’ve stolen
just a bit of the sun
and they hold it there
in their branches
as the day dies
and there’s so much
that’s so hard
but the sunset is always easy
and free and sweeping
the trees are easy too
how they move so slowly
in the night air
things are hard sometimes
but as I drive home
and look through my window
things are less hard
and the leaves
are the same color
as the last splinter of sun
