roadside mud

Some words for the week
broken down cars
yellow taped and frozen over
on the way to town
like storm broke ships
hollowed hard luck hulls
derelict in wind waved
roadside mud splattered snow
half buried and impact battered
in the remnants of
the weekend winter war
which the wind
and wet weather won
a reminder
or more a proclamation
that despite our asphalt
our studded rubber
our four wheel drive
and puffy jackets
we have not yet tamed
these blizzards off the mountain
nor the black ice
nor the frostbite
and nothing but
the spring ever will
