Some words for the week
I cut through the weather
in this old Ford with new tires
over rock and hard water
over dirt and snow
the winter shakes the windows
the heat on full blast
I’m wearing two pairs of socks
I’m wearing three sweaters
both of my hands
are on the wheel
steering through
the white stained world
the glass in the back
is frosted up
and there’s no tracks yet ahead
there’s just me
in four-wheel drive
hauling into the day
there’s no looking back now
there never was a way
but forward into the wind
