Some words for the week
all the roads are already built
I drive their switchbacks

for me to pass

Some words for the week
all the roads are already built
I drive their switchbacks
and hit their potholes
I move over the ground
in the way that has been paved
for me to pass though
and wonder why
each curve was chosen
as opposed to another
there are so many paths
that these highways
could have taken
there were so many
better routes
with fewer trees cut down
fewer hillsides dynamited
with easier grades
better views
wider lanes
but someone young like me
had no say
in how this country
was conquered and cut up
and all the roads
are already built
and I don’t see
any new ones being made
not until these old roads
are broken into dust
but today
I’ve still got to go to work
so I drive down the mountain
like everybody else
