“Some Words for the Week”
There are two
dead dragonflies
on the dashboard
of my car
as I sit down to drive home
after a day of work
they were not there
when I parked my car
this morning
and all my windows are up
somehow they made it inside
and died right next to each other
their wings almost touching
as they spend a work shift
blanching in the sun
I ride home
and their still bodies
glint in the fading light
when I get home
I use a tissue
to toss them into the grass
their bodies crumbling into dust
before they even hit the ground
