“Some Words for the Week”
I wake from a dream
in which I’m being
thrown out of a restaurant
for not being able to pay
to my lover shaking my foot
and beckoning me
to the bedroom window
where there in the snow
beyond the walls and glass
two foxes play
orange as perfect suns
or fields of blooming marigolds
the foxes chase each other
through the snow
bounding and bouncing
over the wind drifts
and tree wells
we watch in awe
for forty minutes
the dawn rising
snowy peaks turning red
then pink then gold
a full moon above us
and the foxes
the whole forest a playground
them diving into
and floating over the snow
I’m wrapped in the blanket
watching laughing near crying
there are beautiful things
happening all around us
all the time
it’s so easy to not see them
but they are there always
in some form
beyond the windows
and bad dreams
a life of frolic and play
