Pioneer Inn: A Nederland Icon

Posted

Nederland, formerly known as “Middle Boulder” (after the creek that flows through town) got its current name in 1874 because of heavy Dutch influence in the settlement.

The town’s original boom was a result of the Pikes Peak Gold Rush, when Nederland became a prosperous mining supply depot and stage stop for precious metals. It was the discovery of tungsten that put Nederland on the map during World War I, as it was vitally necessary to harden steel for boats and weapons.

The town has since became a gateway to outdoor recreation in nearby Indian Peaks Wilderness.

This ~100 year old building has housed many businesses, including a grocery store, ice cream parlor, bowling alley, and the Pioneer Inn (for almost 50 of those years).

During the heyday of Caribou Ranch Recording Studio, we were a a welcoming haven for musicians and producers. Dan Fogelberg, Joe Walsh, Stephen Stills, Robert Plant, and Stevie Nicks are only some of the big names who came here to practice between the mid-70s to 80s. They went a little wild when they came to the PI, and we have many patrons who can tell you all about those days...

We have been a music venue since out opening in 1971. Many famous musicians have played here, and we have stories to share with you. Every Thursday an Open Jam. Everyone is invited to participate! On the weekends, we have 1-2 shows with local, regional, and national bands playing a variety of rock.

Since 1971, our bar has comforted souls around the world. We serve finely crafted cocktails, local beers, 20 bottles of beer, wine, and shots. Some of our bartenders have been sharing their trade for over 30 years. Not only are they skilled at pouring, they can spin stories for decades.
