On the first day of my stay here
I was looking at all the dogs
There were folks and smells and sounds and things
There were treats and chances and times
The first day I came there was a cage with a bed
And the ceiling with no view
The floor was cool and the feel was still
But the air was full of sound
I’ve been in the kennel, a dog with a new name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the kennel, you can’t remember your name
‘Cause there ain’t no one for to give you no love
After 200 days in this kennel
My hopes have begun to feel dashed
After 200 days in the kennel, there’s little fun
But I hope to be looking soon at a river bed
And the story it might tell, of a river that flows
will make me happy to know of all that’s been said.
