Peak Perspectives: Reflections

Posted

Wow, I can’t believe it’s already July. How did we get here? In the past six months, I have felt like life at the newspaper is a bit of a whirlwind. I don’t think we have slowed down to take a deep breath. We have been building up staff, expanding coverage, learning the new groove with new ownership of the paper, and more. HUGE thanks to Christian Vanek for keeping the dream alive.

We have shifted focus from survival mode, to thrive mode. In that process, we have been evaluating what works and what doesn’t. Ultimately, it’s been amazing.

We are now able to focus on what you, our readers, are asking for. We are able to be in each community more, learning what is needed.

The focus of the next quarter will be getting several staff fully trained to take on part of my job. The goal is to give me more time to do the things I need to do, by having some of my current workload shift to others. All have been promoted from within the organization and have been incredible in taking on the tasks needed, to ease a bit of my time constraints. We have one more hire to complete, to make all of this a reality. More news on that soon.

This week you will see photo arrays from six different journalists. We covered six events in one day, including coverage by a friend in Gold Hill who has been submitting photos of the 4th of July events for many years. Thanks, Kirstin. And thanks Christopher, Omayra, Hayden, Kirk, and John for your contributions to the 4th of July array. It’s truly a spectacular layout with beautiful photos throughout. Not to mention all of the normal coverage in this one.

Did you know we are hosting a Studio Tour in September. This is an opportunity to feature your work as an artist. We will have a map, a Studio Tour guide, and we are featuring artist profiles throughout June, July, August, and September.
