Peak Perspectives: Police & Town

Posted

We have two Nederland Police Department stories in this week. One is “Marshal Fine-Loven resigns.” The other is “Timeline of the NPD transformation.” (See pages 1, 7, 8)

How I see this. Marshal Fine- Loven has resigned. She is here until September 30. We need to support her through the end of her term. She has done a hell of a job for our community in her short tenure here. I’m collecting cards and letters of thanks for the next week or so. People can share with her the positive impact she has had on our lives and community. Mail to: The Mountain-Ear (attn Jen Fine-Loven), PO Box 99, Nederland, CO 80466. Or drop off at Brightwood Music. I’ll bring them to her all at once.

Not sure how people think new information can come out before the election is done. It’s tonight. The town needs a full board to make these decisions. The BOT will be appointing a Mayor and Trustee next week. Folks, listen to these meetings and participate. Please.

I have personally seen a TON of Bo Co Sheriffs up here, filling in the gaps. I have said hi to several and waved at all of them. Many of them are local sheriffs officers that have been here for years.. patrolling the Peak to Peak and backing up NPD. They are committed to being here to help us, as we go through whatever transition this will be.

This whole “we are in a crisis” thing is telling people we are understaffed and people can come here to do crime. We are not in crisis. We are in turmoil. We are reorganizing. Decisions made in a day will not be conducive to the future health of our community. The Town must come together to make the right decisions. A lot of thought is going into those decisions. There are a lot of people sharing information that has not been verified and has not been solidified. It’s all conjecture. That does help the issue. Let Town work.. and bring it to us.

A new, full town board can make all the difference in the world. As well, people in town, talking thoughtfully, working together, planning together, could make a huge difference. We, the town, residents and businesses need to remain level headed and find solutions. No more blame games. Let’s FIX this...
