What does collaboration mean to you? To me, it means working together for the greater good. This is something I strive for in my business and in my life. It has not always been easy, but my focus is to always work for the greater good of this paper, making decisions that support it positively. As well as the greater good of my communities, which support the paper and who, in turn, I support. What goes around, comes around. And it just feels good to “do good.”
This week I was approached with an idea that rounds out another idea I have been working on for about six years. This will be a new collaboration with another like-minded business friend. The idea opens up a new door to a new business that is outside the paper. It expands the idea of handing the paper off to someone new. And brings me back to the idea of finding a way for the paper to remain “community owned.” I’m not sure what that means yet, but I’d love to meet with minded people that want to make this dream a reality. Someday the paper will need a breath of fresh air. It will need the ability to climb to the next level and it will need YOUR thoughtful ideas on how to make that happen.
Our newspaper digital archive project is in full swing with the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection (CHNC). Collaboratively, are working to preserve the history of Nederland and all of our coverage areas. When the first 11 years are completed, we will get them online and share with you the link for free access to these historical pages. This goal remains and continues to be preservation and sharing the knowledge of over 45 years of The Mountain-Ear, with you! Fundraising to support this project will begin as soon as the first pages are completed!
In the meantime, I am enjoying a week of catch-up after a few days off. I thank everyone who made it all possible. It’s no easy task to make it happen with my busy schedule.
For all topics, I welcome your thoughtful letters, comments and ideas. And, if you have a story idea about any topic, pitch it to us. If you have an event that needs covered, send it in. A music promotion or school sports story we missed? We are here for you!
The Mountain-Ear is YOUR community newspaper, covering all of the news you love in the entire Peak to Peak region, since 1977. As always my door is open (in Nederland and Black Hawk), my phone is on and my email gets checked regularly. Contact me at info@themountainear.com or call 303-810-5409.
