Peak Perspectives: #newsCOneeds

Posted

Dear friends,

I’m Barbara Hardt, the Publisher of The Mountain-Ear, and I want to explain why your support of our work matters more than ever.

This week my heart is full with thoughts of spending time with those I love for the holidays.

Our holiday traditions have changed a lot in the last couple of years. This year I am excited to see a lot of my family next week for an early Christmas celebration. In fact, this year I have seen almost all of my family at one time or another. It’s been a blessed year for me.

This year I plan to buy less, and focus more on finding something unique that truly represents those I am gifting and my relationship with that individual.

We’ll buy local, we always do. We support our friends and neighbors and we ship to our family out of area, with a little extra love from home. In fact, I need to finish that process so gifts make it on time to my out-of-state relatives.

This year I will once again focus “in” and make the holiday special.

Once again, the newspaper has been expanding by leaps and bounds. For that, I have a lot of gratitude. We are wrapping up a year long Keep it Local campaign in the next month, including tons of Shop Local holiday stories about the entire Peak to Peak region.

This week, to all of you, thank you. For reading, subscribing, advertising, donating and above all else, supporting The Mountain-Ear newspaper for over 4 decades. We couldn’t do it without you.

The past few years have certainly brought their share of challenges to us all. For our newsroom, the #newsCOneeds matching grants have supplied dozens of subscriptions to residents that could not afford them during the pandemic. The funding has supported our intern program and offset lost income over the last few years.

Despite all of this, our commitment to bringing Coloradans the news has never wavered. That’s because you deserve access to local, independent journalism that keeps you connected and informed — especially during challenging times. This is #newsCOneeds.

I am inviting you to join us in a growing movement to support trustworthy and local news by giving to The Mountain-Ear today. Thanks to a matching grant from Colorado Media Project, from now until December 31, your donation will be matched, up to $5,000. And with a local private donor, it will be matched again, also up to $5,000. That’s up to $15,000 we can raise, with your help.

So, what do you say? This is a fantastic opportunity to maximize your investment in local journalism.

Will you support reporting that works for Colorado?

This is #newsCOneeds. Give now.

With gratitude,

Barbara Hardt
