Peak Perspectives: New news of Nederland

Posted

Friends, we are going through a lot of change in Nederland. We have turmoil in our Nederland Police Department (NPD), with loss of staff, not enough funding to hire qualified people, and a police chief working way too many hours to keep the place held together. Hats off to Jen Fine-Loven for her hard work to save our community police department. Please pay attention and read the latest articles about NPD on pages 22 to 25.

We also have an upcoming election in Nederland with five candidates running for Mayor or Trustee. There was also a lawsuit filed against the town from a previous candidate. Those stories are on pages 26 to 29 and page 36.

This week we have 500 sponsored (purchased by a local person). These papers will end up in some of the Nederland PO Boxes, to make sure everyone knows about the candidates and the upcoming election.

We have four “Keep it Local” stories this week, including three from Nederland and one from Gilpin. These are part of our series where we will print 104 stories for each community, during 2022.

Speaking of local businesses, in case you’re thinking of eating out… check out this link for info about local establishments (UPDATED JULY 15, 2022). We cover the entire Peak to Peak region with a bit of information on where to be and what to see! If your listing needs to be updated, email us at info@themountainear.com and we’ll take care of that before our next print of this local list (and we update online weekly). Here is the link: https://www.themtnear.com/ articles/peak-to-peak-dining-drinks- and-entertainment/. We continue to be the ONLY print publication that shares this full list, and we keep it online year-round for you.
