The Mountain-Ear sweeps CPA Awards

Posted

THORNTON — In January of every year, we start the process of selecting the work of staff members we want to nominate for awards. This year we nominated about the same amount as last year, but this year almost everything we submitted was chosen for an award. That’s never happened before. What an incredible honor for our staff, to be recognized as a news leader in the industry.

This week we were exceptionally well honored at the Colorado Press Convention Better News Media Contest. The awards recognize our staff for our hard work in 2025. This year, the awards recognized our staff with 93 awards, from first to third place, in editorial, design, advertising, our website, newsletter, and more. The number seems extraordinarily high, but the reality is, we produce a lot of work in our weekly newspaper, our new monthly arts and culture publication, our yearly Visitor’s Guide, yearly Body Mind Spirit Guide, and our Studio Tour Map. As well as our podcasts, socials, our own contests, and more.

On top of these awards, we were awarded the top honor in all categories for Advertising, Editorial, Other/Mixed Media, Photo and Design, and General Excellence, (Best across all divisions).

The recipients of the awards are: Omayra Acevedo, Brian Alers, Denise Boehler, Libby Chandler, John Clower, Deb D'Andrea, Blaizun Diamond, Lori Garcia, Dave Gibson, Barbara Hardt, Tyler Hickman, Lynn Hirshman, Wes Isenhart, Christopher Kelley, Jessica LaFone, Jamie Lammers, Mindy Leary, Clementine Miller, Hope Munoz, Maryann Rosen, Frank Sanders, Sara Sandstrom, Samyukta Sarma, Polina Savich, John Scarffe, David Sockrider, Brittney Wagner, and Cecilia Wilson.

Next year, we will do the same thing to recognize the work our team puts together for you, our readers. In a time of news organizations shrinking and many even closing, we are not only surviving, we are thriving.
