This week has been an exciting whirlwind of activities. I hosted two News & Brews events. I covered seven events, went to five meetings and a business gathering. In the paper you will see only a few stories that came out of it. Some events I just take photos at, then use in stories we publish. Some events I hand out free newspapers and media kits. And some events I hold onto for a future date.
Speaking of future dates, the entire crew at The Mountain-Ear has a week off if everything comes together. If you didn’t know the history of “It’s Your Turn” (well for my time at the paper), here it is. Every year in March or April, Barbara Lawlor would go to Arizona with friends. We published an “It’s Your turn” edition when she was gone. It was a time for her to take a week off. This is a yearly tradition at The Mountain-Ear. And it became a time for all of us to take a week off. So a true “It’s Your Turn” edition means we are taking a week off. We print early and everything.
The last time a full IYT edition happened was in the spring of 2021. Now, I am hoping it comes together this month. I’m not going anywhere. But I would actually shut my computers off for a few days. And just take a deep breath.
The only time we can make it all lineupiswhenwehavea5week month. June is 5 weeks. If you have something you’d like to submit, send it this week. I still have some space left.
This can be a poem, artwork, photography, anecdotes of living at 9000’ above sea level. This can be a business promotion, a silly story, your child’s artwork. You name it. Submit to info@themountainear.com .
I welcome your thoughtful letters, comments and ideas on how to support this latest community through this tragedy. I’ll be out all weekend once again hosting News & Brews events to gather information on what is important to YOU, in YOUR community newspaper. Watch The Mountain-Ear Facebook or my personal page for info on locations and times.
And, if you have any story idea about any topic, pitch it to us. If you have an event that needs covered, send it in. A music promotion or school sports story we missed? We are here for you! And don’t forget to submit your original poetry, artwork, photos, business promotions and more by June 3 for our summer “It’s Your Turn” edition.
