It’s my turn, your turn, their turn

Posted

BLACK HAWK — Whew, what a week it’s been. I know you’ll find a lot of amazing coverage of local news here. From features to fires, schools to government, obituaries, columns, letters to recipes, it’s all here.

Since this is also an “It’s Your Turn” edition, you’ll also find some reader-written poetry, stories, business promotions, and a bunch more.

This is one of my personal favorites of every quarter, the reader submitted content. We welcome your original stories, business promotions, poetry, photos, artwork and more. Remember to submit your work for the next It’s Your Turn (Thursday, April 2) by Friday, March 27. The April 2 edition will also be our April Fools edition, a fun edition full of false news (on purpose).

In the meantime, I just want to say a very special thank you to some folks who helped me make magic happen last week.

About a month ago, I started working on the idea of taking a quick trip to see my family in California. This is no simple task and requires a lot of moving pieces to come together, all at once, like magic.

None of it could have happened without my sweetheart Doug making all the pieces at home fall into place. As well as my friend and coworker Kaia, who dropped me at the airport on the way to pick up your papers last week in Aurora.

And a special huge thanks to my daughter for going along with my plan to bring her and my grandchild out to meet the great-grandparents, aunts, and uncles. This was an incredible trip and while too short, we did get to see all of the family over a couple days.

Thank you to my sister and her husband for giving us a comfy place to stay, and to everyone who kept the secret about the trip, allowing us to surprise my folks with this beautiful time.

Okay, enough about me.

On a sad note, my heart and prayers go out to the parents of Alex Pretti, who live in Colorado. I can’t wrap my head around the violence that has been forced on the people of Minnesota, as well as every city and state ICE has been inserted into. Words escape me, and that’s pretty hard to do.

The Mountain-Ear remains YOUR community source for news, covering where to be, what to see, and everything you need to know about the Peak to Peak region, since 1977.
