Barbara Lawlor, Nederland. The Nederland High School alpine ski team traveled to Beaver Creek last Thursday, January 15, to compete in their second giant slalom state qualifier of the season.
Battle Mountain, Steamboat Springs, Evergreen, Aspen, Vail Mountain, and Platte Canyon High Schools competed in the event. In the girls' race, there were 59 skiers and 54 finishers. The cutoff place for state qualifiers was 20. Sophie Defries, Delaney Pratt, Taylor Folwell, and Brita Luscher all qualified. The girls came in second place overall, for the second week in a row.
Individual times:
The Nederland boys took third place. Of 68 skiers, 51 completed both runs. To qualify for state, the boys needed to be in the top 23 places. Quin Kuechenmeister, Jacob Scheiffler, Tirg Campbell, and Roland Bailey qualified.

The next meet will be a slalom race at Winter Park on Thursday, January 22.
