It was a phenomenal end to the Nederland High School girls’ basketball season. During the past few months, the girls’ team has come together to win their three last games, including a post season game.

After three years of rebuilding, the Panther girls have formed a bond that began when Linnaea Thibedeau and Karen Sorokach were freshmen. They struggled for every win; they worked hard, always supporting each other and always recovering from loss. Karen and Linnaea helped build the team, working to play well and develop the relationship that athletes and coaches strive for.

The two seniors are saying goodbye to the team. They are passing the touch to the younger girls who have had great role models to follow, and now have large basketball shoes to fill.

The girls won their first playoff game against the Lotus School for Excellence Meteors in front of Panther spectators.

They traveled to Burlington the next day, a town close to the Kansas border. The Cougars, 13-9, snarled, and pounced on the basket, winning the tournament match, 61-23, ending the basketball season for the Panthers.

It was a good run. Without their outgoing seniors, Linnaea and Karen, the team will shoulder the legacy into next year’s season.
