There was great joy in the Nederland High School gym last Tuesday night when the Panther girls
won their second game of the season, 29-26.
It may not sound like a huge victorious season, but a handful of determined young women have
worked hard to claim that win and never did let their many close losses get them down.
It was a home game against the Union Colony Prep Timberwolves and it was a struggle all the way.
At halftime, the Ned girls were behind 13-17 and the team was eager for the second half, knowing they
had a good chance.
Both teams fought hard defensively in the third quarter, neither of them allowing good shots at the
basket. The Panthers inched past the Timberwolves, came up with two points, and momentum pushed
them forward to win the game in the final minutes.
Karen Sorokach carried the scoring and the rebounding with a spectacular 20-point, 10 rebound
double double. Breegan McClish played strong with five points, six rebounds and three blocks.
The girls and the fans went home filled with the joy of victory.
