NEDERLAND – The Homecoming volleyball game in Nederland on October 10, 2025, showed true “Panther Pride,” as Ned’s team defeated their opponent in three 25-point sets. And the town needed a win, after the devastating Lakeview Fire that burned a third of its businesses to the ground the day before.
Nederland's team spirit was infectious, prompting the crowd to cheer and wave jazz hands in unison on cue. Families and friends yelled for their favorite players, and the varsity volleyball team acted like the star players they have trained to become.
Even when a mistake was made, like a serve hitting the net, the girls would come together for a quick huddle on the court and break with a clap.
Brimming with enthusiasm after each successful play, the Nederland team won three sets of 25 points each, with confidence and quick action.
Though the William Smith team boasted a taller opposite hitter, that didn't stop Ned from taking the game.
The Panthers made it look easy, taking the match with scores of 25–9, 25–12, and 25–13 in the three sets.
Because volleyball is played as a best-of-five series of 25-point sets, the Panthers’ three-set sweep showed just how strong they were.
Setter Naima Bullings (No. 4) kept plays moving smoothly, setting up solid hits from outside hitter Penny Bodnar (No. 3) and middle hitter Roo Mannion (No. 15).
River Lemaster (No. 1) made several sharp returns, while libero Trinity Prahl (No. 22) showed quick defense in the back row.
When matches are close, teams can be forced into four or even five sets, but Nederland didn’t need the extras—they finished it in the minimum three.
The game was a massive success for the athletes, families, and the town at a time when it was needed most. Congratulations, Panthers, and Happy Homecoming!
