Do you have gold fever? Then, a mining tour with gold panning might suit your fancy. The Hidee Mine, located on Central City Parkway, offers an exciting and in-depth mining tour and the chance to pan for gold, or chalcopyrite, as it were. Don’t miss feeding peanuts to the practically tame chipmunks!
Tours take about an hour, and participants learn how hard rock mining was accomplished in the area. Visitors are given a chisel and hammer to do “single jacking,” where one person drills a hole using a steel drill and sledgehammer. Any treasure you find is yours to take home!
The Hidee Mine is open 363 days a year and is closed on Christmas and Thanksgiving. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and tours cost $35.
