Dear Editor and Nederland Voters,
As Nederland celebrates its 150th anniversary, we stand at a pivotal junction, reflecting on our rich history while eagerly looking forward to a sustainable and vibrant future. Our journey from a mining town to a creative, artistic community, and now to a hub for outdoor recreation, mirrors our evolving relationship with the natural world around us. The proposed asphalt pump track at Chipeta Park embodies this next step, offering not just a new recreational space but a commitment to innovative environmental stewardship.
This project is not merely about adding another amenity; it’s a strategic investment in our community’s and our children’s future. By utilizing intelligent stormwater management and drainage planning, the pump track is designed to not only coexist with the nearby creek and sensitive riparian area but to enhance them. This thoughtful approach goes beyond preserving the current state, aiming to improve water quality and ecosystem health, demonstrating how recreational infrastructure can positively impact our natural surroundings.
With broad support from the community and endorsements from various town boards, this initiative symbolizes what we can achieve together. However, its success hinges on your participation. This important question is on the back side of the ballot, easily overlooked yet crucial for shaping Nederland’s future. I urge you to flip over the ballot and weigh in on this symbol of progress.
By supporting the pump track, we’re not just voting for a new place for our kids to ride and play; we’re endorsing a future where Nederland continues to thrive as a beacon of outdoor adventure, environmental sensitivity, and community spirit. Let’s make a choice that reflects our values, honoring our past while investing in a legacy of health, joy, and stewardship for generations to come.
