Open Call for artists at NCL

We hope you have had the opportunity to come into the library and enjoy the vibrant paintings by local artist, Ms. Carol Kozlowski, that are currently on display. Kozlowskl’s paintings will be on display until the end of June, and the Nederland Community Library (NCL) will be hosting a Meet & Greet the Artist on Saturday, June 24 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Please register at nedlib.org to join us for an evening of art and light refreshments and to learn more about Kozlowski and her artistic process.

Another opportunity for fun and enjoyment is the National NASA interactive and educational exo-planet exhibit being piloted at NCL. We are all so fortunate to live in a community with amazing educational opportunities and vibrant works of art at our local library. While the NASA exo-planet exhibit will be on display through the end of summer, NCL displays local artists on an ongoing basis…and we are looking for more artists!

During this month of June, local artists are invited to respond to the Nederland Community Library’s Open Call for artists. We are accepting applications for both 2D and 3D art. Displaying at NCL provides great visibility for artists; the library sees over 55,000 visitors and our website receives over 25,000 hits per year.

Generally, 2D artists display fifteen to twenty works on our walls, depending on the size, for a period of ninety days. To be considered for display, 2D works must be durable, framed and able to hang with a wire. The maximum weight for any 2D piece is forty pounds.

3D artists display six to twelve pieces in our display case, depending on the size, for a period of thirty to sixty days. 3D art must fit in our three-tiered display case.

The deadline for submitting an application to the Open Call is Friday, June 30, 2023. To apply, interested artists must submit an Art Exhibit Expression of Interest Form to Marni Siegal, NCL Operations Manager, in person at the library (200 Highway 72 North, Nederland), or via email to msiegal@nedlib.org. Forms are available at the library circulation desk and online at nedlib.org (find the “About Us” tab and click on the “Art Exhibit Information” button in the drop-down menu. Scroll to the bottom of the page for Expression of Interest Forms and Exhibit Procedures).

Submissions will be reviewed by the NCL Art Exhibit Committee. Selections will be made by the Committee by July 31, 2023. Preference may be given to artists who reside in Nederland or neighboring areas. Ultimately, selections will be made based on the quality and appropriateness of the art and the space available.

We, at the Nederland Community Library, are continually amazed at the artistic talent in our mountain community. We are fortunate that we get to enjoy our local artists’ work each day that we come to work. And we are excited to see what may be displayed at the library next!
