Their final year of middle school is completed. Eighth graders are now ready to start high school. On May 25, 2022, the eighth graders who attend Nederland Middle-Senior High School (NMSHS) were honored with a Promotion Ceremony to celebrate the end of middle school and the beginning of high school.

The eighth graders excitedly came into the school’s auditorium and sat in front of their families and the other middle school students. NMSHS Principal Mark Sibley welcomed all in attendance and gave some advice to the students. He said, “You are good enough just the way you are.” Great advice to all of us at any age.

Student speaker eighth grader Ruby Gustafson spoke to her classmates and the attendees. Each student was then presented with a certificate for eighth grade at NMSHS. There were cheers and great applause when each name was read. I think it is safe to say that this class supports each other’s accomplishments and is not afraid to make some noise.

It was enjoyable to see a slideshow with photos of students through the years put together by NMSHS teacher Mark Mabbett. Vice Principal Sean DePaula then spoke to the eighth grade class. He talked about how important it is to learn from their mistakes. And to put the phones down and be present.

Congratulations and good luck in high school Class of 2026!
