Walter Avramenko is a geologist who has always had a love for the great outdoors, from wave swept coastlines to high snow-covered peaks.
He moved to Colorado in 1982 for work and to be amongst friends and has remained in the Denver metro area ever since. For Christmas 1986, rather than send out store-bought Christmas cards, he instead designed, carved and printed a Colorado winter mountain scene that he sent out to family and friends. Based on the positive response, preparing linoleum block prints has become an annual tradition during the holidays.
Over time, the simple print grew in size, multiple colors were utilized, and the number of prints made per year increased.
Preparation of his annual holiday print requires a couple months of preparation, now requiring considerable effort. All done for the sole purpose of satisfying an inner urge to create art, with an effort to capture the essence of Colorado. Time spent printing competes with a multitude of other interests, all of which bring joy to life.
