About every six weeks Nederland Elementary School (NES) students gather for an all-school assembly. When they meet there is always emphasis on their school themes of Respect, Responsibility and Safety. Each teacher recognizes a few students demonstrating respect, responsibility and safety in the classroom or on the playground.
On January 20, Nederland firefighters came to the assembly to talk to the students about responsibility. Safety was also included in their talk. No assembly at NES is complete without some music. This time the second graders sang, “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars. The assembly ended with music teacher Alison Bagli leading the school in the school song “We Are the Panthers.”
After the assembly each class went outside to tour a fire truck, and an ambulance with the firefighters. Sully, a Boulder County park ranger, also showed her vehicle and talked to the kids about what it is like as a park ranger.
NES stresses to students the importance of being respectful, responsible and safe. Students are rewarded throughout the year with special days for filling bead jars for showing these characteristics. Keep up the good work young Panthers!
